Schedule for Teaching Tenses

Day Seven - part Eight: Practice All the Tenses
  1. Go over the formulas for all the verb tenses [simple, continuous, perfect, perfect continuous]
  2. Next show students how the continuous, perfect, & perfect continuous tenses can be boiled down into just three basic formulas:

    • the continuous/progressive = "be" + verb + ing
    • the perfect = "have" + past participle[p.p.]
    • the perfect continuous/progressive = "have" + been + verb + ing

  3. Begin a story in the past and ask students to work with a partner to continue the story through the past, into the present, and finishing in the future. Decide how many times you want them to use in their story.
